Our congregation grew up with Floral Park Village. By 1912, many Lutherans had moved to the village, and two among them, Mrs. Homeyer and Mrs. Metzendorf, together with a missionary named Pastor Halter, canvassed the village and surrounding towns for Lutherans. On March 10th of that year, Pastor Halter led a service, and Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Floral Park was born. As Christians, the Lutheran faith is centered on the person and work of Jesus Christ. We believe that God is three in one, or triune. We believe that the Son of God became a human being to suffer and die for the sins of the world so that all who believe in Him will not perish but through His substitution for us on the cross we are given forgiveness and eternal life. Since that spring day in 1912, Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church has served the communities of Floral Park Nassau, Floral Park Queens, Bellerose, and Elmont steadily and faithfully. As we begin this new decade, we gather every Sunday around God’s Word and the Holy Sacraments. We express our faith in service to wider community through our daily lives and in our participation in the Interfaith Nutrition Network and Lutheran Social Services. Our Sunday Morning Schedule: Holy Communion: 9:45 a.m. Come and join us!
You can contact us by telephone at (516) 775-9669 or by email at: info@christlutheranfloralpark.org. Directions Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church meets at the corner of Plainfield Avenue and Spooner Street, just South of the Jericho Turnpike. From Queens, take the Jericho Turnpike east past Little Neck Parkway, and from Long Island, take Jericho Turnpike west past New Hyde Park Road. From either direction turn south on Plainfield, and the church will be on your right. Only street parking is available.
We’re easy to join—and we’re always looking for volunteers! Besides these ministries we provide, some of our members also do work for local Lutheran and Interfaith charities. We hope that you will decide to give some of your time and your gifts to help us make our church more inviting and our community more loving. Evangelism Committee What is a church without outreach? We try to make sure that Christ is known throughout our village, and to ensure that all know that Christ Lutheran is a welcoming and Spirit-filled place. All our members are in some way a part of us. Hopefully, you can join us in our work! Sunday School The education of our children is paramount. We always need good teachers to help in Sunday School, so that our children will grow in faith and love for the Lord and for each other. Worship and Music Committee We try to make sure our worship continues to be meaningful and accessible to all. We suggest changes, give the Pastor or Vicar feedback, explore new ideas and new ways of worship, suggest hymns. Altar Guild Altar Guild is a group of people who work every weekend to make sure the sanctuary is ready for worship. We prepare the communion table, the paraments, the missal, the bibles, the baptismal font. We meet once a month to ensure that each Sunday has two people who make sure everything is ready and to discuss how we can best continue our service. Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church is a place for worship, fellowship and Christ. Women’s Circle Women’s Circle is the network of women (and some men, too!) at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. We participate in social ministry projects together with the Social Ministry Committee, and we organize the annual anniversary dinner at the church and the annual dinner in honor of our Confirmation students. Property Committee We have charge of the church building and the parsonage. We make sure the roof doesn’t leak, the windows don’t leak, the grass is cut, and the sidewalk is clear. We’re a hardworking group, and we always could use another group of volunteers! Social Ministry Committee The Social Ministry Committee engages the congregation in charitable projects throughout the year. Non-perishable food for the Lutheran Social Services New Life Center in Uniondale and used eyeglasses, etc. for New Eyes for the Needy are collected all year long. (Collection boxes are located in the narthex) Various other projects, such as collecting funds and distributing information for the ELCA World Hunger Appeal , or participating in a blood drive are featured on a monthly basis. Details on the current project can be found on the “Messenger” tab of this web site.
Welcome to Bright Horizons at Christ Lutheran Preschool, where you can make a friend and be a friend! For over 20 years, Bright Horizons Preschool served the Village of Floral Park and the surrounding area. In 2013, Bright Horizons and Christ Lutheran Church decided to deepen their relationship, and Bright Horizons became a ministry of Christ Lutheran Church. Martin Luther was a teacher, and the Lutheran Church has a long tradition of valuing and providing education. Christ Lutheran is proud to stand in that tradition. At Bright Horizons, every child is treated with compassion and respect. Children of any or no faith are welcome.
